Berat is a sleepy mountain town about 4 hours from Tirana by shared mini-bus taxi. There isn't much to do outside of the ruins of an old fort on the hillside overlooking the city. One interesting tip - every night the entire city gathers for a walk down the main street just to wave at each other and say hi. If you happen to be in town at night, do not miss this!

Tiny awesome little city on a mountain. If you're pressed for time, this little gem of a city doesn't need more than a day to fully explore. Definitely a cool laid black place with a lot of history to cozy up in for a few days if you have the time to relax! Make sure to check out the fortress AND the "evening walk" - where [what seems like] the entire population of Berat walks up and down the main street. It's a neat experience. Staying at Berat Backpackers Hostel made the visit extra cool!
